“A Women is like a tea bag you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water” – Eleanor Roosevelt.

“Fearless” – another name for Abhaya. Today women live in a society where fear is at the tip of the nose. Rape, molestation, kidnapping, harassment and murder are the most common forms of crime against women in India. But, what we as the responsible citizens of an independent country fail to realise is that instances of harassment can flare up into other bigger heinous crimes against women. And that is when the importance of learning self- defence techniques for women is felt.

The session held on 1 August 2018 was about Swaraksha for women a self-defence techniques session.

‘Swaraksha for Women’ is a simple and effective one hour self-defence training especially for women, which Mr Karthik S Kateel had conducted with the help of his mother Mrs Shobalatha. Mr Karthik started the session asking questions with the students that did they feel frightened or intimidated when out walking alone. How would we react when we are approached by an attacker? Personal safety has become an issue of importance for everyone, but especially for women.

To protect ourselves from such situations Martial Arts Guru Karthik demonstrated us with 5 techniques formulated by him on the basis of physiology and real incidents.
Mr Karthik and his mother together displayed these tricks which does not advocate punches, kicks, blocks which would have been difficult for women who are not trained under martial arts. He also told that these tricks can be learnt by a 6thstdstudent to sixty year old women.

At the end of the session, to entertain the gathering he also demonstrated some of the unique martial arts stunts which really wowed the spectators.

Women does not require men to protect her dignity, she herself can protect it. Despite making rigid laws, instead of redoing the crime of women, there is a growing tendency in the day every day. By using these 5 simple tricks women can be strong and defend themselves in vulnerable situations.
