Mangaluru 19 February 2019 : To learn about the special educational needs of various types of children with intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities and behavioural problems, the third semester B.Ed students of St. Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), Mangaluru accompanied by the teaching faculty Mrs. Rose Pinto and Sr. Dorothy D’Souza A.C visited St. Agnes Special School. The students planned numerous curricular and co-curricular activities suitable to the capacity and age level of the students. The lessons of the specially trained teachers were observed by our students. The vocational centre was also visited by our students where they observed how each individual is so unique and strives hard to reach the highest potential.

The B.Ed students prepared a variety of teaching aids suitable for the curriculum and were distributed to the different class teachers. The visit also included a talk on ‘Inclusive Education’ delivered by Sr. Veera D’Souza A.C, the Coordinator of St. Agnes Teacher Training Institute, Mangaluru. Input about successful inclusion, working on individual goals, developing IEP, Autism and features of Intellectual disabilities were addressed to the students.

The students gained a diversified knowledge about the challenges faced by various children with disabilities and the way of handling their needs through this practical exposure.
