St Agnes PU College, on 20 August, 2019 celebrated Elder’s Day to value and cherish their contribution to the society. The elderly form an integral part of our lives, who with their knowledge and experiences guide us through our difficulties but, we fail to recognise their efforts. The programme was dedicated to the elderly to make them feel that they are an important part of our lives and their contributions are not forgotten.

The Chief Guest of the programme was Mrs Lidwin Lobo, a volunteer at the Vishwas Trust that runs homes for the aged. She has been with them ever since her retirement and has been working tirelessly for the elderly. To enhance the meaning of the programme, several grandparents of the students had come. The special invitees graced the programme with their presence.

The programme began with a prayer song by the students followed by a welcome note by Trisha. Then, the chief guest addressed the gathering and spoke elaborately on the senior citizens, the Vishwas Trust and the work they do at the home for the aged. She also stressed on abuse and domestic violence on the elderly committed by their own family members and advised that it would be much better to join the homes for the aged than to suffer such atrocities. Citing examples from her own life, she explained the problems the elderly face.

Later, various games were conducted for the special invitees who enjoyed their time playing the games. The games were conducted by Pallavi and Niyatha.
This was followed by honouring the special invitees by the Principal Sr Norine DSouza and the distribution of the prizes by the Vice Principal Sr Janet Sequeira.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Diya. The students also put up a cultural programme on old Bollywood songs leaving everyone with a feeling of nostalgia. The programme was compered by Anahitha.
