Ladyhill Victoria Girls’ High School, Mangaluru

Mother Marie des Anges opened an Elementary School, on 19 March 1885, on the premises adjoining St. Ann's School.  It wasknown as St. Ann's Kanarese School. In 1887, the school moved into its new quarters at Dongerkery.  That year happened to be the  Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria and, hence, the school was renamed, " Victoria Girls' School". In 1892 English became the medium of instruction. As sanitary conditions were not conducive, Mother Aloysia purchased a plot at Urwa and the foundation was laid on 2nd October 1920. Bishop Paul Perini S. J. blessed the convent on March 25th 1921. The school was declared open on 27th March 1921, with a Nursery Class, as the Golden Jubilee Memorial of the foundation of the Institute. From June 1922, a small community of three sisters resided there.  Then, in January 1923, the old Victoria Girls School became the Victoria Ladyhill School, Urwa.

Ladyhill Victoria Girls’ High school was known, for its excellent discipline, good results in the SSLC and dedicated teachers all through the past decades. It received permanent recognition from the DPI in 1933. The Old Students Association was started in 1953 and it has already celebrated its Diamond Jubilee. The Parent Teacher Association started in 1960 has celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2010. In 1996 the Platinum Jubilee of the Convent and High school was celebrated with a solemn Holy Eucharist and the finale on January 19th 1996 with Bharath Lal Meena, the peoples’ DC and Bishop Ignatius Pinto of Shimoga diocese as the guests of honour. To mark this significant event a spacious new school block was built under the leadership of Sister Nirmala Francis.

Ladyhill offers various opportunities to impart an all round development for its students. It is observed that the students who have passed the portals of this institution have been women of honesty and integrity who have held fast to these values as well as to those of loyalty and faith in God. Ladyhill is marching towards its Centenary Celebration..!
