Secondary Schools

St. Mary’s High School, Falnir, Mangaluru

The parishioners of Milagres Church wished to benefit from the sound education the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel were imparting in their schools. The Primary School which started in the year 1895 by Bishop Abundius Cavadini SJ, at Hampankatta was accepted by Mother Marie Des Anges. The school got its recognition in 1897 and developed rapidly. The transfer of the school from Hampankatta to Marjil House took place on 14th January 1932. This house was the gift of Mr. M. S. Mascarenhas to the Apostolic Carmel.

 In the year 1948, it became a full-fledged High School known as St. Mary’s High School. The school presented 20 students as the first batch for the SSLC Examination in 1948.  As the strength of the School increased the need for a new building was keenly felt. A new block with three rooms each on ground and first floors was erected in 1953. The school made its first attempt to print the School Magazine “Marylite” in 1953. Ex-Mariettes Association was started with 65 members on roll. The Parent Teacher Association was inaugurated in 1956. In 1960, the Kannada Middle School was shifted to the Nazareth Compound.

In June 1980, the English Primary School was bifurcated from the High School. With the passage of time and the added strength of the school, one more block for the High School was built. On 23rd August 1997 the foundation stone was laid and on December 3rd 1999 the block was blessed by Bishop A. P. D’Souza.

 The High School came into limelight at the State and National levels through the victory of two of its students Marie Joyce and Lana D’Souza who presented a project on Computer Science titled ‘Re-usable, Cost Effective, User Friendly Interventional Aid to Windows - 98 Pc Operator’ This project was guided by Dr. Arunachul Kumar of KMC Mangalore. It was also selected for National Software Technology Development Fair held at Mumbai in 2002.
In 2014 boys were admitted to Std. VIII. The school is making steady progress in every field and Mariettes have contributed a great deal towards the growth and development of this institution.
