Nov 11, 2017: St. Cecily’s Composite P.U. College, Udupi in collaboration with the department of Pre- University Education, Udupi, hosted the District Level Athletic Meet - 2017, on 3rd and 4th November 2017, at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Ajjarkad Udupi.
The Inaugural Ceremony began at 9:00 a.m. on 3rd Nov. with a galaxy of dignitaries adorning the stage. Sr. Rose Agnes A.C., the Assistant Provincial Superior of Karnataka Province, presided over the function. The Programme started with a synchronized March-past in which Mrs. Sheela K. Sheety, the Vice- President of Zilla Panchayath, received the guard of Honour from the Cadets. Mrs.Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, the President of Municipality and Mrs. Nalini Pradeep Rao, President of Taluk Panchayath hoisted the District as well as the College Flags simultaneously.
After the Invocation, Mr. Yashpal Suvarna, a Member of Municipality inaugurated the Formal Stage Function by lighting the Diya. Mrs. Priyanka Mary Francis, the District Comissioner, Udupi, inaugurated the Sports Meet by releasing the tri-coloured balloons. A beautiful Welcome Dance performed by the students of St. Cecily’s P.U. College, was followed by the arrival of Olympic Torch which was received by Mrs. Sandra D’Souza, a National level athlete and an alumnus of St. Cecily’s. Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, the Chancellor of the Diocese of Udupi and the Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi, and Sr. Rose Agnes A.C. conveyed their blessings and good wishes towards the success of the event. Mrs. Vijaya Lakshmi B Nayak, the DDPU, welcomed the gathering while Mrs. Vasanthi Ganesh Kalyanpur, Lecturer in Kannada, proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Sathish Chandra Chithrapady, compered the entire Programme.
Various athletic events were conducted for two days under the leadership and supervision of the Sports Officials and Physical Directors of schools and colleges of Udupi district. Nearly 630 athletes representing 55 colleges of Udupi, Karkal and Kundapur zones participated in the Meet.
The Valedictory Programme began around 3:40 p.m. on 4th November. Mr. Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLA Kaup Constitutency, was the honourary President of the Function. Dr. Vijaya Ballal, Dharmadarshigalu, Shri. Janardana Mahakali Temple, Ambalpady, Kota Shrinivas Poojary MLC, Mr. Kumar Chandra, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mr. Naveen Chandra Shetty, President Of Congress Block, Kaup, Mrs. Anitha Karkada, a National Level athlete and an alumnus of St. Cecily’s, PTA executive Committee members, Mr. Roshan Kumar Shetty, Assistant Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Udupi, Mrs. Rita Lobo, an alumnus of St. Cecily’s as well as officials of Department of Pre- University Education, were the guests of honour.
Mr. Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLA Kaup Constitutency, and others felicitated the winners with trophies and medals. Mr. Pramod Madhvaraj, Udupi District-in–Charge Minister and Minister for Youth services Department, Sports and Fisheries, arrived just in time to present the Over-all Championship Trophy to Dr. N.S.A.M. Pre-University College, Nitte, Karkal. Sr. Maria Gracy the Principal-Incharge, St.Cecily’s Composite P.U. College welcomed the gathering And Mr. Dinesh Kumar, the District level Sports-Secretary, Department of Pre-University Education proposed the vote of thanks.
The two day Meet was indeed a memorable one. The well coordinated and united efforts of the Principal, the Management, officials, staff, student- volunteers, P.T.A. members, Philanthropists, and well wishers ensured the grand success of this Mega Sports Event. God be praised!!!
