Nov. 28, 2017: St Ann’s College of Education celebrates Graduation Day along with the Inauguration of Platinum Jubilee by Sri J.R Lobo

St. Ann’s college of Education (Autonomous) was established under the able leadership of mother Josephine in 1943. It is the premier institution of education in the coastal region of South India. It has several firsts to its credit. It is the first college of education for women in Karnataka, the first college that sought assessment and accreditation in Karnataka. It is the only college to be given the FIVE STAR status in 2001 and ‘A’ grade in 2014 with CGPA 3.71/4 by NAAC. It is the only college of education that has been granted the autonomous status by UGC with approval by the government of Karnataka.

 

 

 

 

 

We are very proud and happy to say that this college of Education is in the threshold of celebrating the 75 glorious years of its existence. As per the vision of the college, it draws strength from Christ - the light to all women graduates, post graduates and research scholars, to be lighted to light – the humanity at large. The college prepares the student teachers to face the challenges of tomorrow in various spheres – personal, academic, research, and professional excellence to spread the light of knowledge.

The institution has very rich human and material resources. It includes flexibility in effective curriculum transactions, variety in teaching methods, high caliber of work in research, informal consultancy and extension and action oriented plans for value based education.

Its latest hardware and software resources, provide feedback, evaluation procedures, and have a team of competent and highly qualified staff on it. The publication of project based instructional material and research reports are the major highlights of the institution. The institution continues to excel in providing teachers of caliber to our country and responds to the call to break the fetters of ignorance and illiteracy.

 

 

 

 

 

The College of Education, takes pride in celebrating the opening of its 75th Platinum Jubilee on 28th November 2017. Sri J.R Lobo, Member of Legislative Assembly, Mangaluru South Constituency and the Chief Guest inaugurated the Platinum Jubilee with an aim to shove the institution grow into higher standards of teaching research and paving a way for higher education for girls and in the service of the country.

The Jubilee Celebrations continued with the College Graduation day – recognition of the outstanding efforts of the 73rd batch of B.Ed. teacher trainees as they fly out of the portals of this institution as full fledged teachers.

The programme began invoking God’s blessings. Dr Sr Clare A.C, Principal welcomed Sr. Ida Barboza A.C., Secretary of Apostolic Carmel Educational Society, the President of the function, Sri J.R Lobo, Member of Legislative Assembly, Mangaluru South Constituency, the Chief Guest and dignitaries. The plan of action consisting of an assortment of events planned for the jubilee year proposed were readout by Dr. Flosy D’Souza, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Programme.

 

 

 

 

 

Mrs. Sharmila Mascarenhas and Mrs Rose Pinto, Assistant Professors presented the highlights of the activities of the year through the Annual College Report. The cultural programme sequenced a western song, depicting a tale of a boy whose loss is reversed by fate. A folk dance known as ‘Lambadi’ gave a beautiful experience of nomadic tribal women and a dance depicting Goan culture was performed. ‘Jaago Zara’ – a song on women’s rights was sung in chorus. A Tableau explicating the motto of our college ‘Lighted to Light’ was performed.

The Rank holders of B. Ed and M. Ed were felicitated. Ms Namrata Naik and Sr Latha Thomas were awarded Gold Medals founded by the Alumnae Association. The winners of the various competitions were given prizes and a couple of scholarships and founded prizes were given to the deserving students. Ms Preeti Lewis, 2nd B. Ed Student compered the ceremony and Ms Anna Crasta, B. Ed Student President proposed vote of thanks. This programme was witnessed by Sr. Ida Barboza A.C., Educational Secretary, Apostolic Carmel Educational Society, Sr. Edna Furtado, A.C., Superior, St. Ann’s Convent and Joint Secretary, St. Ann’s College of Education, the parents, staff-members, Sisters in the Campus, Alumnae and students.
