A terrace garden was inaugurated at Mount Carmel Central School by Mr. Blanny DSouza on the 18th of July, 2019 as part of Vanamahotsava celebrations. He explained to the students the use of different fruit bearing plants planted on the terrace of the school building.

The members of the Eco Club had organized an inspiring programme on the occasion which began with a soft and melodious prayer song. Master Sudhan of Class VII D welcomed the gathering, specially the Chief Guest Mr. Blanny D’Souza offering him a pomogranet sapling befitting the occasion.

Ms. Sinola Albuquerque then brought out the significance of the occasion. A meaningful ‘rain dance’ followed, celebrating the much-needed showers of rain for the parched land and a group song by the eco club singers. A short skit on the life of “Salumarada Thimmappa” was enacted by the members of the Eco club, which highlighted her life, dedicated to growing and maintaining trees.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Principal then introduced the Chief Guest and his excellent work in terrace and kitchen garden cultivation. Mr. Blanny D’Souza, a living proof of turning the impossible to the possible with the spirit of positivity, amazed and enthralled the audience with the nature of his work in gardening and his commendable success. An Income Auditor for the Sharjah Carlton Hotel Dubai, his retirement led him to pursue his hobby of gardening in Mangalore, which has led to several awards for outstanding work in the field. Mr. D’Souza shared a very interesting video on experiments performed to prove that plants also have feelings and respond positively to praise and kind words. Yet another video showed his own work in terrace and kitchen gardens and the fruit of his labour. He encouraged everyone to take up terrace and kitchen gardening.

Nathan D’Souza and Mohammed Ziyan of Class X compered the programme. Dhanvithraj of Class IX proposed the vote of thanks.

After the formal programme, the students planted a few flower and fruit bearing saplings in the school campus. A number of plants were also distributed to the neighbouring campus as an effort to promote eco culture.
