Carmel Niketan, Bidar

The Apostolic Carmel Sisters had ventured into Bidar Mission in 1982 and had been fully involved in the lives of the people.

Sister Christine Misquith with her zeal and commitment went out of her way to the peripheries to bring hope and light in the lives of the people. She with other Sisters and social workers visited Jamgi colony where there were about 45 Catholic families whose faith needed to be strengthened, the women to be empowered, the youth guided and children to be coached as they were attending a Government School.
Sister Carmel Rita the Provincial Superior along with her Council discerned and in 2017 requested the approval of the Superior General to start a new Apostolate and to open a new Convent at Mailoor, Bidar so Sisters could be close to Jamgi colony to cater to the needs  of the people.
The Convent was inaugurated on June 24 2017 by the Provincial Superior, Sister Carmel Rita and blessed by Bishop Robert Miranda of Gulbarga Diocese.

The Sisters are involved in Socio-Pastoral work; they render spiritual ministry to the 40 Catholic families of Jamgi Colony, four families of Dhumsapur, two families of Gumpa, two families of Mailoor Cross and two families of GND College. They conduct coaching classes for 90 students ranging from Class I to PUC. They teach Catechism and pray the Rosary with the families every day. They are in charge of eight commissions of the Church and of Sponsorship programme and Social Work under Carmel Seva Trust.
