English Medium Secondary Schools

Stella Maris English Medium High School, Gangolli

The Parishioners from Gangolli expressed a desire to start an English Medium School. The then Provincial Superior Sister M. Olivia along with her Councillors decided to open an English Medium High School in 2007-08. Accordingly an application was sent by Sister Archana, the then Superior and the Headmistress of Stella Maris High School to the Educational Department, Bangalore, seeking permission to start Std. VIII. The school began with 25 students on roll. Classes were held in Stella Maris High School and they managed with the existing staff of the School. The permission was secured from the Commissioner, Department of Public Instruction, Bangalore on 24.08.2007 to start Std. VIII and the school was named Stella Maris English Medium School affiliated to the State Board.

A new school building was built in the place of the old keeping in mind the need to start Primary sections from Std. I – VII. The Foundation stone of the new building was laid on 27.03.2009. The two storied building and an Auditorium was completed in 2011 and was inaugurated by Sister M.Linette, the Provincial Superior on 15.12.2011. The Kannada Medium and English Medium students were accommodated in the same building.

In 2013-14 an application was sent seeking permission to start Primary Sections Stds. I – V. With the Government Policy as Kannada being the medium of instruction from Stds. I to V the school suffered a great deal. Finally it obtained permission in 2015 – 16 to start Stds.VI & VII. The school was named Stella Maris Higher Primary School with English as the medium of instruction. Today it is a fully fledged school having Classes from I – X. Both academic and cultural activities go on hand in hand. The School is progressing steadily with the number of admissions on the increase!
