On 31st July, 2019,  ‘Abhaya’ the women’s forum of St Agnes PU College in association with Udayavani, a Kannada daily, organised a talk on ‘Rain Water harvesting’ the need of it and benefits of practising it, by Mr Rajendra Kalbavi, the Project Director at Nirmithi Kendra, NITK. Mr Ramachandra Mijar, the Marketing Head of Udayavani was also present. The other dignitaries on the dais were Sr Norine Dsouza, the Principal, Sr Janet Sequeira, the Vice Principal, Mr Ashwin and Dr Tressie Menezes, co-ordinators of ‘Abhaya’.

The programme began with a prayer song by the students. After the introduction of the Resource person and welcome by Ms Lynn Rebello, Dr Rajendra Kalbavi addressed the audience. He delivered a power-point presentation on rain water harvesting. He began by elaborating on the need for water conservation and the plight of cities that have run out of water. He spoke on how rain water harvesting is a feasible and effective method of coping with the water crisis. We are currently facing and will face in the future. Mr Kalbavi further explained the various ways of practising rain water harvesting and the steps followed in the construction of the harvest tanks. It was an eye-opener to all present and the insights provided by Mr kalbavi enlightened the audience to think of rain water harvesting as a solution to the water problems and also start implementing the same.

This was followed by a short address by Mr Ramachandra Mijar, who by quoting examples of great women acheivers, called upon the students to take up the topic of water conservation and rain water harvesting seriously and put it out in practice that will bring about massive changes in the society.

The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Arleen DSouza. The programme was compered by Ms Mishal DSouza.
